Female, SVL = 24 mm. This photo illustrates the expanded finger & toe tips as well as the lack of toe webs, characteristic of 'cruentus group' species. This individual has the red-orange coloration on the anterior of the thigh and enlarged supraocular tubercle/s diagnostic of E. ridens. However, this frog is unusual for an E. ridens in that the posterior thighs were a light brown color, and it has a small but obvious heel tubercle. Elevation = 960m.
This photograph nicely illustrates the large & pointy heel tubercle, pointed superciliary tubercle, and the long & distinctive snout that are diagnostic of this species. Thanks to Prof. Karen Lips for showing us around El Cop.
