Resident in most southern parts of California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas, and migratory north into southwestern and central US as far north as Minn. Ind., Miss., Ky., Utah and Colo. (Scott 1986). Habitats are subtropical and southwestern open areas, alfalfa fields, and desert. Host plants are usually herbaceous with most known hosts from families Leguminosae, Malpighiaceae, and Plumbaginaceae. Eggs are laid singly on the host plant flowers. Larvae eat flowers and fruits. There are multiple flights each year, all year in s Calif. (although mostly Mar1-Oct31) and s Tex, and between May1-Oct 31 in the northern part of the range (Scott 1986).
