Philautus cardamonus is a small frog which reaches a SVL of 19.3 mm. Dorsally, dark tan with a pattern of dark mahogany brown; flanks are marbled dark brown. Canthal and tympanic areas are also dark brown. Throat and chest white marbled with dark brown blotches. Ventral surfaces are greenish yellow. Iris is copper colored. Head is longer than wide. Snout rounded and slightly protruding, equal to horizontal diameter of eye. Interorbital space is convex. Distance between posterior margins of eye is two times the distance between anterior of eyes. Pupil is oval and horizontal. Tymapnum is distinct, rounded, and 42% of eye diameter. Arms are short and thin. Relative length of fingers are 1

Males have nuptial pads present, with many small white spines. Vocal sacs are also present, but indistinct in throat. Slit openings for vocal sacs at base of jaw. The holotype was collected on Phnom Samkos in upper montane evergreen forest at an altitude of 1650 m on the leaf of a bush hundreds of meters from any source of water. Paratypes were in similar habitat but at an altitude of 1250 m.
