Description: Cymatoderma elegans Jungh. Image location: Yarrahapinni State Forest, North of Grassy Head, New South Wales, Australia One mature fungi in close proximity to juvenile. Growing on wet deadwood on Eucalyptus rain forest floor in shaded area. Both fungi were soft and slightly flexible. The main body colour was mauve becoming white towards the fingers, which also had mauve tinge on the extremities. No apparent infestation noticed. Main mature fungi was approximately 3 3/4 inches in height. The mauve area felt velvety to the touch. Slight pressure did not show immediate bruising. No other specimens located in the area. No distinctive smell. Possibly “Cymatoderma” but not certain it is “elegans Jungh.” species. I have been unable to find any images that even come close to this find especially the trunk shape and Velvet colouring. I realise from reading notes on this species that identification is difficult.
