July 18, 2013 birding by kayak IBSP
During our birding by kayak trip at Island Beach State Park on Thursday, July 18, 2013, we saw 23 species of birds. This was a little lower than normal and many "expected bird visitors" were not seen. It just means we need to make another trip to find them. We started after 8 AM and wrapped up around 11 AM. The day was clear and extremely hot with temperatures soaring into the 90s. Wind was about 5 - 10 mph at start of trip and then died down. We paddled out to a sand bar and stopped before moving into the middle of the bay and finally in to the tidal marshes of Spizzle Creek.
